Gina Rodriguez has booked a guest-starring role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Season 5B. Details on her character are being kept under wraps, but it seems likely Rodriguez will be playing a love interest to Stephanie Beatriz’s Rosa Diaz
. And here’s why:
Earlier this season, it was revealed that Rosa is bisexual. Not long after, executive producer Dan Goor told EW we’d eventually meet Rosa’s girlfriend, and Beatriz was quick to offer up some big name dream castings, one of which was Rodriguez. “Love Gina Rodriguez, and think she would be fantastic,” the actress told EW. Rodriguez then responded enthusiastically.
Earlier this season Diaz came out as bisexual and has talked about dating a woman
. Back in January, Beatriz told EW that she thought the Jane the Virgin star would be great for the role, saying, “[I] love Gina Rodriguez, and think she would be fantastic.”
Rodriguez was down for the part, writing on Twitter that she was already getting her kissing lips ready for the possibility. Gina’s casting was first teased in a now-deleted Instagram photo from Terry Crews
, which we were able to screen grab. The Jane the Virgin actress, is slated to appear in one episode
. ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ will return this spring on Fox

Catherine Hardwicke is in talks to direct Miss Bala
, the remake of the Mexican film that was nominated for Best Foreign Film in 2011. I’ve heard the studio is heavily courting Gina Rodriguez
, among other actresses (like Michelle Rodriguez) She doesn’t have the role yet but is the front-runner. Hardwicke has separately been circling The Phantom Tollbooth, which is at sister label TriStar project. If the studio gets a star tof Miss Bala quickly, Hardwicke won’t likely catch the other train
. Kevin Misher and Pablo Cruz are producing, Andy Berman is executive producer. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is adapting the script by original director Gerard Naranjo and Mauricio Katz.
The film is an adaptation of the Mexican entry for best foreign-language film at the 84th Academy Awards in 2011. It centers on a woman named Laura Guerrero who, along with her friend, enters a Miss Baja beauty pageant. She witnesses during rehearsals a gang killing Drug Enforcement Administration agents and nightclub-goers, which turns her life upside down. She’s then kidnapped by the men and forced to work for them in the deadly drug war.
